About
Makazai is a new brand of rum from the coastal Indian state of Goa. In order to create a strong, unique identity, the owners approached Popping Mustard. I worked with Bidisha from Popping Mustard to design the bottle and visualise the final labels before the launch.
The design went on to win a Baby Blue Elephant for packaging design at the Kyoorius Design Awards.
Point-of-Purchase
In addition to the Bottle designs, I created a range of Point of Purchase displays which built on the brand language. These included 2 routes, each with wall-bays and counter top units.
Route 1
The first route draws from the existing brand assets and colors to create the POP units. The unit is divided into 2 halves, to showcase the two different varieties. At the center of the unit is a layered glass installation, which highlights the turtle illustration in a unique way, adding a highlight to the unit.
Route 2
Every journey brings with it souvenirs. For the well-traveled, these take up place of pride in their homes, a reminder of journeys past.
Inspired by vintage curio cabinets, this route places the bottles alongside the accoutrements of a well-heeled traveler: cameras and journals.
Wood and wicker provide a warm rustic feel along with the brass frame.
Other Point-of-Purchase Units
I also designed a wall unit and shelf unit to display the bottles.
